The municipality of Jordan recently held awareness seminars on youth to promote the SPARE Guimaras program of the province.

October 31- November 1 is the day that the spirit of awareness & unity in Guimaras Youth awaken from a deep sleep. Following the reports on the entrance of large scale mining in the province Brgy. San Miguel of the said municipality held a youth congress aiming to inform the youth about the problem.

The said mining operation will cover more or less 70% of the island’s territory. It will greatly affect the natives, the natural resources and the livelihood of the people including food and water sources.

Youth started a rally along the road of the major town of Guimaras shouting NO to large scale mining.

Also included in the rally is the plead of the youth to minimize improper garbage disposal, damaging underground water sources of the province.

The provincial government calls upon the Guimarasnons to say NO to mining, to improper waste disposal and to every delinquency that may greatly damage the island ∧ it’s people.

EVERY DAY SHOULD BE AN EARTH DAY

The International Earth Day marks the day of saving the earth from rapid deterioration. But should we come think of it? If every day would be an earth day, earth will possibly be out of rage and danger.

The youth is the start. We are the beginning of the change our society waits. We are the heroes of our generation and the future. Let us create a world righteous enough to live in… a world away from the juvenile delinquencies of life…a place safe for every living man to live… a paradise of love, hope and happiness.

Let us stand and fight for a better future. Let us make every single day an EARTH DAY!

It’s March then.

It’s gonna be the greatest day of our lives, well, for us high school students maybe. Graduation is fast approaching or had been, for some.

This end marks a new beginning for the youngster to uphold their spirit towads another journey of living.

Environmental poroblem recently flood our province. The issues on waste management never ceases. In addition to this thraet is the mining explration application of several mining companies. Reportedly, there are 5 of them and still pending as of  September 30, 2009. But reports confirmed that one application has been approved without the knowledge of the local government. How true is this?

This maybe, is the main reason why most of the Guimarasnons opposes mining in our province.

Well, I’m not with it either. Mining will only cause ill-effects to the island-province and imbalances in the environment. This may cause air pollution that may result to severe respiratory diseases. It may also brought about watpollution that may result to mercury poisoning. Chemicals released from the site may contain tixic substances that can cause death and diseases not only to the residents beside the mining site, but also to all the Guimarasnons as well.
